This category has produced the fastest-moving state and federal legislation in the entire ledger: criminal statute, a dedicated voice-likeness law, and an FCC ruling, all within about 18 months.
Laws that reference it
- US Take It Down Act — criminalizes non-consensual intimate imagery (including AI-generated) and imposes a 48-hour platform takedown duty.
- Tennessee ELVIS Act — the first state law explicitly protecting a person's voice from unauthorized AI cloning, with a private right of action.
- US FCC — TCPA AI-voice ruling — declared AI-generated voices "artificial voices" under the TCPA, making unauthorized AI-voice robocalls categorically illegal.
- EU AI Act — Art.50 — requires deepfake disclosure as part of its transparency obligations.
